Where to Play Tennis in London

Wimbledon didn't have a court for you. London has 113 places that do.

London has no shortage of courts. It has a shortage of courts you can walk onto. Half the famous ones are clubs with a waiting list. The other half are in parks, cost a few pounds, and nobody tells you about them.

We checked 162 venues in 14 London boroughs. 113 are open to you. 49 are members only. This guide tells you which is which.

Venue facts last checked October 13, 2026. Tournament dates checked October 13, 2026.

Book ahead in summer. Or turn up: the council says you can pay and play if a court is free.

One thing we could not find out: whether these courts stay open to the public during The Championships. Neither the council nor the operator says. Ask before you go.

The Club's own public courts

The All England Club does run courts anyone can book. Just not those ones.

Its community tennis centre is in Raynes Park, a few kilometres from the Championship grounds. Pay and play, once you register.

Courts

The grass courts there open to the public after The Championships.

How booking works here

London has no single booking system. Every borough does its own thing. 65 of the 113 venues open to visitors take bookings on ClubSpark. The rest use their own site or the phone, or need no booking at all. Every venue page here links to the right place.

When to go

The Championships run June 28 to July 11, 2027. Qualifying is held the week before; the 2027 dates had not been published when we checked.

Summer is when everyone in London remembers tennis exists. Book early, and look for lights if you want an evening: 31 of the venues open to visitors have them.

FAQ

Do I need to be a member to play tennis in London?
No, not at 113 of the 162 venues we checked. 49 are members only, and we mark every one.
Can I play at Wimbledon?
Not on the Championship courts, as far as we could find. The Club's own site says nothing about the public playing there. The Club does run a pay and play centre in Raynes Park, and the public courts in Wimbledon Park are over the road.
Can I just turn up at Wimbledon Park?
Yes, if a court is free. The council says you can turn up, pay and play. In summer it recommends booking.
Are the Wimbledon Park courts open during The Championships?
We could not find out. Neither the council nor the operator publishes it. Ask before you go.
What does a court cost?
At Wimbledon Park: £14.60 per hour adults, evenings and weekends; £11.25 per hour adults, Monday to Friday up to 5pm; £9.95 per hour concessions, Monday to Friday up to 5pm; £21.00 per hour commercial rate. For other venues the price is on the venue's page wherever the venue publishes one.

How we checked

Every fact on this page comes from the venue's or the organiser's own site. Each venue page shows the source and the date we read it. We do not review courts and we have not played them for you. If something here is wrong, the source changed after we read it. Tell us.
